Abstract

527,745. Variable resistances. EDWARDS, B. J., JACKSON, D., and PYE, Ltd. April 19, 1939, No. 11855. [Class 37] One or more cylindrical resistance elements 1 mounted on a panel 2 are engaged by sliding contacts 5 formed by pressed-out portions of the limbs of a resilient U-shaped metal strip 4 secured by a rivet 11 to an insulating member 10 slidable within a slot in the panel and screwed at 6 into a finger 8. A resilient insulating strip 9 is disposed between the panel and member 4, so that when the nut 8 is turned to lock the sliding contact in its adjusted position, as shown to the right in the Figure, the strip 9 bows and forces the contacts 5 more firmly against the resistance. A cam and lever device may be used, alternatively, for the locking device and the member 4 may be formed partly of insulating material. Also, only the bridge portion of member 4 need be resilient.
