Abstract

832,547. Improvement in potentiometers. MORGANITE RESISTORS Ltd. March 28, 1958 [March 28, 1957], No. 10259/57. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (c)] A potentiometer comprises a resistance track, a shaft rotatable with respect to said track and a slider arm mounted upon said shaft, wherein the shaft is adapted to operate a switch at a predetermined position in its travel. The resistance track is provided with an insulating surface coating at said predetermined position whereby the slider arm is electrically insulated from the resistance track at that position. The resistance track 1, Fig. 1, which may be wire wound on an insulating former or a layer of electrically conducting material, such as carbon, metal or metal oxide deposited on to an insulating base member, has a portion of the track adjacent to terminal 3 covered with a coating 4 which may be for example an insulating tape provided on one side with a layer of adhesive whereby it is caused to adhere to the surface of the resistance track. An on-off switch is arranged to be operated by rotation of the shaft as the contact 5 passes on to the insulated part 4. The potentiometer may form part of the brilliance control circuit for a cathode-ray tube as described in Group XL (c).
