500,522. Variable resistances. ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPENFABRIKEN J. KREMENEZKY AKT.-GES. May 28, 1938, No. 16006. Convention date, June 4, 1937. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL] The operating spindle 5 'of a rheostat is formed with a groove 9 for engagement with the operating lever 7 of a switch which is thus operated by axial movement of the spindle. To accommodate this axial movement, the cylindrical resistance element 1 of the rheostat is made wide enough to be in engagement with the movable contact 3. in all positions of the spindle. In a modification, the contact 3 is fixed, and the resistance element is in the form of a drum mounted on the spindle 5.
