[Class 37] A variable resistance wherein the contact slides over a track of resistance material has a further contact located within the casing with means for operating the second contact to short-circuit the resistance lying between an end contact of the track and the main sliding contact. As shown, the short-circuiting contact k is secured to an end contact c and comprises a spring which can be depressed into engagement with the contact ring f by a spring- urged spindle m concentric with the main operating spindle (not shown).
