Abstract
399,771. Variable resistances. BAKER, A. W., 5, Chandler Street, and MITCHELL, S. C., 240, Princes Highway, both in Rockdale, near Sydney, Australia. July 5, 1933, No. 19043. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1932. [Class 37.] A variable resistance of the type having the resistance element housed in a cylindrical barrel and engaged by a roller frictionally actuated by an operating spindle, has the roller 35 positioned between a disc 31 and the resistance element 13, the axis of the roller being inclined to the operating spindle 22. The disc 31 is resiliently secured to the spindle 22 and is provided with stops 34 engaging a fixed stop 24 to limit the travel of the roller. The ends of the resistance wire 13 have thin layers of conducting foil below them to ensure positive contact. A carbon resistance may be employed.
