635,118. Variable-contact resistances ; combinations of resistances. BARBER, A. A., and SUMMER, W. March 30, 1948, No. 8953. [Class 37] A potential divider comprises a pair of similar resistance elements a, b and relatively movable contacts c, d such that the sum of the resistances between terminals e, f to which an E.M.F. is applied, remains constant, and a relatively low resistance g connected between the contacts c, d and having a movable contact h to provide a fine adjustment of the required E.M.F. The contacts c, d may be mounted on a bar so that they move in unison. Alternatively the resistance elements may be circular with the contacts carried by angularly movable arms. The contacts may be fixed and the resistance elements movable.
