Abstract

791,301. Electron multipliers: electrode materials. FERNSEH, GES. Nov. 30, 1955 [Dec. 1, 1954], No. 34272/55. Class 39(1). An electron multiplier comprises at least one secondary emissive electrode 1 secured in an electrode system by longitudinally split tubular members 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of resiliently deformable material frictionally gripping two of its edges, the ends of the tubular members passing through apertures 3 formed in a supporting member or members 4 which may be in the form of mica, or reconstituted mica, strips. The tubular members 2, 21 can be longitudinally located in the supporting member or members 4 by encompassing members, e.g., resilient split rings, frictionally engaging the tubular members 2, 2i and abutting against the supporting members 4. The strips 4 can be replaced by a single U-section channel member of insulating material the limbs of which are pierced to take the tubular members. In a modification the members 4 may be of metal and are secured to insulators. The electrode 1 can be of beryllium-copper sheet and the tubular members 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of nickel or nickelchromium alloy.
