Abstract

791,136. Pipe joints. B.T.R. INDUSTRIES, Ltd., [formerly BRITISH TYRE & RUBBER CO.], WOODS, T. N. W., and HEATH, E. A. May 17, 1956 [May 20, 1955], No. 14666/55. Class 99(1). In a pipe joint of the kind comprising two mating flanges, one on each of the members to be joined, one of the flanges 10 has at least one hook 16 for engaging over the rim of the other flange 17 to provide, in the making of the joint, a supporting connection between the flanges while the latter are being connected together by bolts or other clamping means. As shown, the flange 10 is split diametrically at 11 and provided with tangentially-disposed holes in bosses 12 for clamping bolts, the inner periphery 14 of the flange being concave to receive a circumferential rib on a flexible suction hose. The hook 16 which is cast integrally with one half of the flange extends radially inwards and fits over the flange 17. Four lugs 18, symmetrically spaced on each side of the hook, have holes 20 for the reception of bolts 22 provided with eccentric, sector-shaped, heads 24 formed with a radial portion 25 of decreasing width and which engages the periphery of the flange 17. The flange 10 is also provided with holes 27 for clamping bolts.
