Abstract
568,353. Pneumatic tyres. WING- FOOT CORPORATION. Nov. 30, 1942, No. 17009. Convention date, July 7, 1942. [Class 144 (ii)] A tubeless pneumatic tyre and rim assembly comprises a two-part rim, one part having a side flange 20 and a base 16 of smaller diameter than the bead seat 18, and the other part 22 having a side flange 24, bead seat 30, and a base slidable on the base of the first part, together with a tubeless pneumatic tyre T of the straight-sided inextensible bead type and a rubber-covered expansible and contractible ring 36 positioned between the beads and clamped to them to form sealed joints. As shown, the ring 36 is covered by an endless ring 70 of rubber or rubberized fabric which extends around the flanged edges 62 of the ring. The ring is formed in one piece of steel, and is transversely split at 38, Fig. 3, the two ends thus formed being connected by a link 46 which allows one end to be sprung radially inwards and below the other to contract the ring when inserting it between the tyre beads. The ring is then expanded, the tyre with the ring in it is placed on the rim, and the flange ring 22 is bolted on, thus clamping the tyre beads between the rim flanges and the rubber-covered edges of the ring 36.
