Abstract

564,705. Securing pneumatic tyres on wheels. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Feb. 20, 1943, No. 2858. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1942. [Class 144 (ii)] The beads of a tyre cover, even when deflated, are gripped firmly between the flanges 20, 24 of the usual ring and the side flanges 62 of a flanged contractible ring 36 having abutting but unsecured ends 38 connected by a double pivoted link 46, one pivot 44 of which is secured substantially at one end of the split, the other pivot 48 being substantially the length of the link away from the other end of the split. The dotted lines in Fig. 2 shows the position of the ring and link when contracted. The body of the ring is recessed outwardly at 54 to accommodate the link and pivots when the ring is in expanded position. One hinge plate 40, Fig. 3, extends beyond the split to prevent the other abutting end of the rim from moving radially inwards. The circumferential contraction of the ring is approximately twice the length of the link. The link is cranked or offset to lie clear of the ends of the ring when contracted. A counterweight 84 is provided on the ring to counterbalance the link &c.
