Abstract

511,056. Wheel tyres. LAMBERT, W. H Feb. 12, 1938, No. 4436. [Class 144 (ii)] A device for protecting the side-wall of a pneumatic tyre comprises a series of resilient plates connected by relatively rigid ring secured to, or constituting, a side-flange of the wheel rim. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the plates 2 are integral with a rigid ring 1 bolted to the rim-flange 3b. In a modification, the ring 1 is adapted to form a tyre-retaining flange secured to the rim-base by means of a split ring. In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the plates 2b are pivoted to lugs 1a on the ring 1 and have extensions 2d bearing against the ring whereby they are normally urged towards the tyre. The outer edges of the plates may be connected by a flexible band or the like. According to a further modification (not shown), the ring 1 is extended for attachment by the bolts used for securing the wheel. Specification 401,345 is referred to.
