Abstract

790,317. Take-off machines for plastics. ERINOID, Ltd. March 9, 1956 [March 14, 1955], No. 7409/55. Class 78 (2). A take-up machine suitable for extruded plastic includes a framework 1, a pair 5, 35 of shafts journalled in the framework, a pair of rollers 6, 39 mounted one upon each of the shafts. and profiled so as to receive snugly between them the ribbon of extruded plastic, a train of gears 12, 18, 21, 38 adapted to couple the shafts for rotation at uniform speed in counter-direction one with respect to the other, a drive means 46 for driving the gears, and spacing means 31 adapted to provide adjustment of the spacing of the shafts whereby the rollers may draw off plastics of differing sections from an extrusion press. As shown, the ribbon of plastic is drawn off between three pairs of rollers. Each pair of rollers includes a fixed roller 6 and a movable axis roller 39. The latter is carried by the block 22 supported pivotally at 29 by rod 30 threadedly engaging sleeve 31 carried by rollers 32 running on the overhead track 33 of the frame 1. Rotation of handle 34 causes pivoting of block 22 about shaft 20 thus increasing or decreasing the distance between the rollers 6 and 39 whilst maintaining the gears in mesh to transmit the drive from chain 46 to the said rollers.
