An apparatus for impressing and cutting plastic sheet material, e.g. dough, in which the sheets on a conveyer, is passed successively between an impressing roller and a plain roller and a cutting roller and a plain roller, has the nip of each pair of rollers and the relative register of the impressing and cutting rollers on the sheet adjustable. In an example the sheet, on a conveyer belt 20, is passed between an impressing roller 12 and a plain roller 14 and a cutting roller 13 and a plain roller 19, the plain rollers 14, 19 being frictionally driven by the belt 20 and adjustable in the direction of the impressing and cutting rollers 12, 13 by bearings 14b, 19b slidable in the machine frame 11. The impressing roller 12 is directly driven by a gear wheel 27, meshing with a gear wheel 26 rigidly secured to a main drive shaft 22 which has a further freely rotatable gear wheel 28 and a driving sprocket 21. A countershaft 30 adjustably mounted above the main shaft 22 has two pinions 33a, 33b, keyed together but free to rotate on the cuntershaft. Pinion 33a meshes with the fixed gear wheel 26 and pinion 33b meshes with the freely rotatably gear wheel 28 which transmits its motion through a gear wheel 29 to the cutting roller 13. Movement of the countershaft 30 around the main shaft 22 by means of adjusting bolts 31 causes the pinion 33a to resolve on its own axis and to transmit its motion by the pinion 33b and gear wheels 28, 29, to the cutting roller 13, thus adjusting the relative register on the dough sheet of the impressing and cutting rollers 12, 13. In a modification the gear train is replaced by a chain and sprocket drive, Fig. 3 (not shown), where the adjustment of the relative register of the rollers 12, 13 is effected by the angular displacement of two sprockets about the axis of the roller 13, thus rotating the roller 13 relative to the roller 12. The rollers 14, 19 may be provided with a covering of resilient material.
