Abstract

789,729. Tapping casks; venting-apparatus. LEWIS, E. C., and ALUMASC, Ltd., March 24, 1955 [Dec. 14, 1954], No. 36085/54. Class 21. [Also in Group XXVIII] A connecting piece F, Fig. 1, for tapping beer casks &c. comprises a frame 2 adapted to have a sliding retentive engagement with the exterior of a member V, Fig. 3, in the cask 12, and an adjustable body 1 in the frame 2 adapted to be forced against a part 3 of the member V to effect fluid tight communication between aligned ports in the body 1 and the part 3. As shown the frame 2 has lugs 25 and stops 26 cooperating with grooves 29, Fig. 5, in the part 3 so that it may slide into correct axial alignment with said part 3 whereafter a handle 4 is depressed to cause ports 5 and 6, Fig. 8, to seal against ports 7 and 8 in the part 3, the handle 4 being finally rotated relatively to the body 1 to cause a locking action in this position by cam means 33, 34, Fig. 1. The ports 7 and 8 may have spring biassed valves 9 and 10 depressed to an open position, Fig. 8, when the connecting piece F is in position. One pair of aligned ports 5 and 7 may be used for the passage of a liquid, the port 7 having an extension 49 terminating near the opposite face or side of the cask &c. and the other pair of aligned ports 6 and 8 may be used as a vent opening or as a passage for a compressed gas. The ports may also be used for the entry and exit of steam. Specification 789,730 is referred to.
