Abstract

789,234. Fuel injection pumps. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. May 16, 1955 [June 14, 1954], No. 14082/55. Class 102(1). The delivery valve 24 of a fuel injection pump comprises a seat 30, flutes 32, a fixed retraction collar 35 and a collar 33 having flats 34 or holes therethrough, forming passages 38 for the flow of fuel to the nozzles. The flow area of the passages 38 is greater than but not more than fourteen times the area of the nozzle flow area. The volume of the portion 35 within the guide bore when the valve is seated is from 20 per cent to 35 per cent of the total volume of the portion of the valve which is withdrawn from the delivery line when the valve moves from against the stop 36 to seated position. The stop 36 prevents the collar 33 leaving the bore.
