788,965. Glass cutting. ABBEY, A. Dec. 6, 1955, No. 35030/55. Class 56. A glass cutting apparatus particularly for lenses, includes a table 16 on which the lens &c. 22 is held by a pad 23 on an arm 24, and a cutter 96 supported by an arm 97 pivoted about an axis 99. The shaft 14 carrying the table 16 is manually rotated by a handle 21 and the shaft 25 carrying the arm 24 is moved axially and angularly by a handle 49 which controls the axial movement by a cam 46 and the angular movement by a pin 45 and cam slot 37. A pin 59, staggered with respect to pin 45, coacts with an arm 61 pivoted at 62 and forming part of a yoke 66 of which the top portion 67 rotates about the bearing 68 of a shaft 73 to which is secured a head 84 on which the arm 97 is pivoted. Rotation of the shaft 73 is effected by the engagement of a roller 71 in a slot 70 in the vertical part of the yoke so that the pad arm 24 and the cutter are moved simultaneously over and away from the work table 16. Axial movement of the shaft 73 is derived from a lever 79 acting through a shaft 77, lever 76 and foot 75 acting on a roller 74 on the shaft 72 of the roller 71, the shaft 72 being carried, transversely, by the shaft 73. The movement of the cutter into engagement with the work is controlled by the engagement of an adjustable stop 105 on the head 84, with which the arm 97 engages under gravity, with a plate 55 carried by the arm 24. The pattern 101 is carried by the shaft 14 and the follower 102 by the yoke 66.
