Abstract

788,497. Speed governors. BOSCH GES., R. March 29, 1956 [April 1, 1955], No. 9813/56. Class 57. In a speed governor for a fuel-injection internal combustion engine in which the governor sleeve 6 is coupled, as by a pivoted lever 8 and link 11, to a member 12 regulating the output of the injection pump 2 and the governor is loaded by a return spring 21 whose loading effect is variable and supplemented during engine no-load conditions by an idling spring 17, the spring 21 is connected to one end of a pivoted lever 15 whose other end is disposed between the idling spring 17 and a spring 16 compressed between the lever 15 and the sleeve 6. Bell cranks 4 pivotally mounted on a carrier 3 secured to the pump drive shaft 1 carry centrifugal weights 5 and engage the sleeve 6. The return spring 21 is connected in tension between the lever 15 and one end of an adjusting lever 22 pivotally mounted on a pin 23 on the governor housing 10. During no-load conditions the lever 22 is in the position I, as shown, and the governor is loaded, through the spring 16, by both the spring 21 and the spring 17. For governing at low-load or high-load speeds the lever is set at the positions II or III respectively and the tension of the spring 21 is then such that the spring 16 is compressed until the lever 15 abuts a pin 20 on the end of the sleeve 6 and the governor is loaded by the spring 21 only, the distance between the lever 15 and the spring 17 being such that the latter is ineffective.
