Abstract
787,111. Cooling cylinders. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. March 22. 1956 [March 23, 19551. No. 8997/56. Addition to 781,367. Class 7(2) Valves 31 associated with individual aircooling jackets 11 of cylinders 10 may be turned (a) to allow simultaneous flow through and between the jackets 11 from a supply duct 12 to outlets 13 as shown, (b) to a position 31<SP>1</SP> allowing only recirculation of air around and between the jackets and (c) to a position 31<SP>11</SP> allowing flow from the duct 12 to the outlets 13 through the jackets 11 only. The positions 31, 31<SP>1</SP>, 31<SP>11</SP> correspond to partial engine load, engine warming-up and full engine load respectively. The outlets 13 may open to a common duct or to atmosphere. The valves 31 are preferably all interconnected for operation by hand, from an engine throttle valve or fuel pump control rod, or automatically according to engine temperature. In modifications (1) the outlets 13 are directly behind each cylinder and each valve 31 is a pivoted portion of one side wall of the corresponding jacket, (2) the arrangement is such that in the valve position 31<SP>1</SP> the jackets are closed off from the spaces between them as well as from the outlets 13, which are then each fully open to a space.
