Abstract
996,055. I.C. engine supercharging and exhaust brakes; gas turbine plant. C.A.V. Ltd. April 12, 1962 [April 25, 1961], No. 14868/61. Headings F1B and F1G. A turbo-supercharger in an engine exhaust system has a pair of inlets 4a, 4b each one of which connects with exhaust ports 1 of one group of engine cylinders, and a valve 7 which may close both inlets and place all the exhaust ports I in communication. The exhaust manifold is divided by partition 2 into symmetrical parts and outlets 3a, 3b connect with inlets 4a, 4b of radial flow turbo-supercharger 5 through a tubular part 6 mounting the butterfly valve 7. When valve 7 is open exhaust gases are directed through inlets 4a, 4b to act on the rotor throughout two arcs. In the broken line position valve 7 serves also as an exhaust brake.
