Abstract

781,367. Cooling cylinders. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Jan. 10. 1956 [Jan. 10, 1955], No. 865/56. Class 7(2) Air flow, through individual cylinder jackets 11 of vehicle &c. engines and en closed spaces 19 by-passing the jackets 11, is regulated by valves 17, 20a, Fig. 2, or 24, 23, 25, Fig. 3, conjointly controlled by linkage 18, 22a, 21a or 26, 27 all together or in groups, e.g. at will; in dependence on engine temperature or on the actuation of an engine starter, speed governor or accelerator, and preferably so that the valves 17 or 23, 24 are shut and valves 20a or 25 open before engine starting or during warming-up; all valves are partly open at low loads and the valves 17 or 23, 24 are open and the valves 20a or 25 shut at full load. A common inlet duct 12 and a common outlet duct 13 are provided. In Fig. 2, the valves 20a may be on the outlet, or the valves 17 on the inlet, side of the cylinders. In Fig. 3, the valves 25 or one or other of the ducts 12, 13 may be dispensed with.
