Abstract

786.719. Centrifugal separators. SHELL RESEARCH, Ltd. June 25, 1956, No. 19635/56. Class 23 Spent filter medium or filter adjuvant is regenerated by mixing with liquid to form a slurry, and by passing the slurry through a series of hydrocyclones each operated by a pressure jet of additional liquid. The filter material is placed in a tank 4 to which water is supplied by a line 11, and the components are agitated by air supplied by a pipe 5. The hydrocyclones 10, 14, 17, 20 have ejectors 9, 13, 16, 19 connected to branches of the line 11. The slurry is fed to the hydrocyclones by the line 8 and underflows 12u, 15u, 18u, the ejectors being so positioned that the slurry is mixed with the pressure jet before entering the hydrocyclones. The impurities are discharged by the overflows 12w, 15w, 18w, 21w, and the regenerated material from the underflow 21u. Performance figures for and dimensions of the apparatus are given in the Specification.
