Abstract

912,450. Recovery of paper-making fibres from liquid suspensions. LEJE & THURNE A.B. Feb. 17, 1961, No. 5895/61. Class 96. [Also in Group I] A suspension of fibres (e.g. cellulosic), is withdrawn by a pump 13 through a pressurereducing valve 14, optionally controlled as shown by the liquid level in a container 12, and is fed to a vessel 1 from which a pump 7 withdraws, at 3, fibre concentrate and air to maintain a sub-atmospheric pressure in the vessel, and from which purified liquid is withdrawn at 4 by a pump 17. The liquid level in vessel 1 is maintained constant by matching liquid outflow at 4 with inflow. Further control by a valve 11 and float 10 may be provided. In Fig. 2, not shown, the suspension is gravity fed, pump 13 being dispensed with. Further features of that embodiment are: a separate pump is provided for evacuation of air from above the liquid in vessel 1; valve 11 is connected to a float in pocket 6 to control level therein; and a valve beyond pump 17 is connected to a float corresponding to float 10. In either case pump 17 may be replaced by a valve-controlled downpipe.
