Abstract

601,970. Recovery of paper pulp fibres &c. from suspensions thereof. LEJE & THURNE AKTIEBOLAG. Jan. 4, 1945, No. 378. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1944. [Class 96] [Also in Group I] A method of removing fibres suspended on a liquid especially fibres originating from the manufacture of paper, cellulose, wood pulp, paste board and the like, comprises mixing air and flocculating substances with the suspension, and introducing the mixtures into a closed tank which is maintained at sub-atmospheric pressure, the fibres being 'removed from the top of the liquid in a quietly moving stream, without the aid of mechanical collectors. The fibres pass over an overflow with respect to which the liquid level can be adjusted, for example by regulation of the suction. in the arrangement shown, liquid containing fibres is supplied together with air through a conduit 8 into a vessel 6 where it is mixed with flocculating substances. It then passes over an incline 11 to a channel 12 leading to a vessel 1 which is provided with a pocket 14 connected by a pipe 13 to a source of suction. The fibres float to the top of the liquid and pass over an overflow 19 while the liquid passes through columns 2, 3 to a vessel 17. The overflow 19 may have a pivoted adjustable skimming blade or a blade which is raised and lowered periodically.
