573,093. Purifying liquids. BERTRAMS, Ltd., and STEWART, A. G. Nov. 5, 1943, No. 18369. [Class 46] Froth and floating dirt are skimmed and removed from a flowing liquid, for example, diluted pulp used in paper making, into a collecting trough by the joint action of their own movement and a current of air produced by creating a partial vacuum in the trough and providing a hooded entrance thereto. In the construction shown, a box c is provided with a hinged floor f along which froth a is collected during movement of the liquid b. The box has a collecting channel h with gauzecovered outlet i connected to a vacuum pump or other means of providing a partial vacuum 'inside the box. 'A front plate g is adjustable to control the flow of air into the box. Atomising sprays d, e assist in the removal of the froth.
