Abstract
752,320. Filters. NILSSON, I. L. Nov. 2, 1954 [Nov. 16, 1953], No. 31628/54. Class 46. [Also in Group VIII] Fibres are recovered from backwater of paper-making machines &c. by introducing finely divided air into the backwater which is then directed to the inside of the covering of a rotary filter drum 3 where the covering dips below the inside liquid level, so that coarse fibres &c. carried by the small air bubbles settle first on the inside of the drum to form a mat which aids in filtering fine fibres &c. out of the backwater. The longitudinal bars 7 of the drum are shaped as illustrated to assist in with. drawing the layer of fibres from the liquid whereupon the fibres are blown, by a series of air jets 27 into a funnel 29 which directs them to a tube leading to a storage container, the drum being washed by a water spray 30. The backwater is supplied through an opening 15, and the air bubbles &c. flow along the underside of a screen 16. The air may be supplied directly through a valve and nozzle, or by a jet-aspirator. In a modification, liquid containing coarse fibres is supplied axially of the drum 3, through a pipe 24 to a trough 23.
