Abstract

578,354. Cleaning building floors. DUNNET, D. Oct. 10, 1944, Nos. 19425/44 and 8351/45. [Class 138 (i)] A device for cleaning and collecting, dirt from the floors of swimming pools &c. without emptying, comprises a sweeper adapted to be moved over the floors by means of a pole 43 having a universal connection to the casing 1 of the sweeper, or by means of two ropes operated from the sides of the pool, and the dirt is collected in a detachable filter bag 26 arranged in the rear part of the casing which is fitted with a pivoted lid 19 to permit of removal of the bag. The bag chamber is open at the bottom and rear, the openings being covered by metal grilles 25, 35, which together with grill 23 in the lid permit of the circulation of water from the bag 26 after removal of the dirt. The sweeper is fitted with a pair of forward rolls 10 the axes of which form a V with the apex at the rear, the rolls being formed of alternate large and small rubber discs, or being formed with grooves. The rolls 10 form currents of sludge which are directed past a pivoted flap 32 to the mouth 28 of the bag 26, and, dirt is directed to the bag by means of a scraper 31 which engages the bottom of the pool. A vane 38 attached to the lid 19 acts to suck the liquid into the bag. On reversal of the sweeper the flap 32 closes against a stop 32a, and a flap 36 closes the chamber at the rear of the bag through which water can normally escape which has passed through the grille 35. The lid is normally held by a wing nut 21. The scraper 31 may be made in segments. The bag 26 may be replaced by a flat corrugated, or other filter screen attached to a dirt-collecting tray or box arranged so that the water flows upwardly through the screen. Or the water may be given a quick turn so as to deposit the heavier particles of dirt in the bottom of'the tray or box.
