Abstract
819,173. Upward current classifiers. JANES, A. E. J. E., and MOZLEY, R. H. April 15, 1957 [April 9, 1956], No. 10745/56. Class 82(2) An upward current classifier is modified to reduce instability in the underflow rate. This is done by injecting a carrier liquid into the bottom part of the column so that it entrains underflow suspension and carries it up a pipe which extends above the input to a thickener, the separated liquid from the latter being returned to the bottom of the column. The classifier 1 is of the packed column type (see Specification 794,271) having liquid injecting means 2 and a pipe 3 carrying the underflow suspension to a thickener 4. Separated liquid is returned to the column at 5 and underflow particles recovered at 6. Overflowing particles are received at 9. The raw suspension is supplied at 7.
