Abstract

509,347. Centrifugal machines. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Feb. 35, 1938, Nos. 5998 and 5999. Convention dates, Feb. 27, 1937, and Dec. 23, 1937. [Class 23] [Also in Group VI] Molasses solution is washed and diluted and subjected to centrifugal treatment in two or more stages in a series of centrifuges having means for continuously or intermittently discharging solid matters with a certain amount of molasses. As shown in Fig. 1, molasses and water are fed to separator 1 through pipes 4 and 5, pure molasses issuing through pipe 6 and sludge being fed through pipe 7 to separator 2 together with water through pipe 8 ; pure molasses issues through pipe 10 and sludge, which is further treated in separator 3, through pipe 9. In Fig. 2, the molasses separated in separator 2 is fed back to separator 1 and that from separator 3 to separator 2. Washing and diluting water is fed into separator 3 through pipe 12 and pure molasses leaves the system through pipe 6. One of the separators may be as shown at 1 in Fig. 3 in which cane molasses is supplied through pipe 15, water through pipe 16 and flushing water through pipe 17. Purified molasses leaves through pipe 18 and highly diluted impure molasses through pipe 19 to a further separator. The sludge at any point may be treated in a gravity settling tank before further centrifugal treatment.
