Abstract
786,336. Endless conveyers. KNAUST, H., and KRITTER, U. VON. Feb. 26, 1954 [Nov. 24, 1953], No. 4090/56. Divided out of 786,335. Class 78 (1). An endless conveyer, e.g. an articulated steel plate conveyer, is driven intermediate its ends by dogs on an endless driving chain or chains, each dog being provided with forwardly and rearwardly extending arms which are movably mounted on the chain at points spaced apart by at least two chain pitches, the links of the driving chain or chains being stiffened against downward flexing. Stiffening of the links of the chain is effected by the engagement of extensions 61 on the outer links 64 of the chain or chains with abutments 62 on the inner links 59. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the forwardly and rearwardly extending arms 69, 691 are formed integrally with one another and with the dog and are provided with slotted holes 70, 70<SP>1</SP> for engagement with pins 63 extending between adjacent outer links of a pair of driving chains arranged side by side so that the dogs are disposed between the chains. In a modification, Fig. 4, each dog is composed of portions 71, 71<SP>1</SP> pivoted together at 72 and having forwardly and rearwardly extending arms 73, 73<SP>1</SP> respectively which are provided with circular holes for engagement with the pins 63, the dog pivot 72 moving inwardly to retract the dog portions as they pass around each end sprocket for the driving chains.
