Abstract

671,424. Endless chain conveyers. HAPMAN, H.W. Aug. 23, 1949. No. 21857/49. Class 78 (i). [Also in Group XXV] An endless conveyer chain comprises links arranged with their ends overlapping, pintle pins pivotally connecting said overlapping ends, said links being slidable axially along said pins, yielding washers interposed between the overlapping ends and supported on said pins, and pressure-exerting members engaging and urging certain of the links axially along said pins into sealing engagement with the washers. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 2 the chain 5 carrying conveyer flights 6, comprises links 7, 8 connected by pins 11, the links 7 being spaced by rollers 16 and washers 17, 18 of synthetic rubber being interposed between the ends of the links 7, 8 and between the links 7 and rollers ] 16. Pairs of the pins 11 are locked in position by a wire 14 which is bent at its ends to engage in holes 13 in the pins and is shaped in an arcuate manner between these ends so as to press the links and washers together. The conveyer flights 23, which straddle the links 7, are formed of rubber and are secured between plate 24 which are secured by bolts 22 to projections 20 on the links 8. In a modification, Figs. 6, 7, the pins 11a are secured by nuts 31, and wires 31 extend through recesses 32 in the nuts and apertures 33 in the pins. Fig. 8 shows another modification in which the clamping plates 24b are secured by bolts 12 to brackets 40 which are secured between washers 17b and a link 7b.
