Abstract
785,048. Seats convertible into beds &c. TAGGART & WILSON, Ltd.. and WILSON, J. Dec. 15, 1955 [Dec. 29, 1954], No. 37553/54. Class 52(2) [Also in Group XXXII] In an ambulance having seats 10, 11, 12 in tandem, the backs 13 can be pivoted rearwards to form with the seats a continuous bed or stretcher supporting surface. The uprights of the back are fixed to rods 20 slidable in sleeves 21 hinged at 22 to a cross member 16 of the seat frame, the lower ends of rods 20 being received in sockets 23 and normally held therein by the tension of an elastic strap 24 connected between the back and the seat frame. To lower the back, it is first lifted to clear sockets 23 and then swung down, being supported in the horizontal position by members 25 on the seat behind. The front of the front seat 10 carries pivotally an extension 32 having a spring-influenced supporting leg 33. Arm rests 27 are vertically adjustable in tubes 26 so that when raised, they retain occupants in the seats or bed and, when lowered, they allow access to the seats or bed.
