Abstract

784,280. Hinges and pivots. BENGTSSON, S. W. Feb. 6, 1956 [Feb. 11, 1955], No. 3629/56. Class 65(2) A window sash pivots about a horizontal axis on a pair of pivotal mountings each of which comprises a plate mounted on, the sash and having two pivot pins 6, 7 which engage grooves 14, 15 in another plate member 12 mounted on the window frame. At least one of the mountings includes a bolt 18 which in the closed position of the window, as shown, releasably retains the pin 6 in the groove 14, the window pivoting about the pin 6 until the pin 7 engages the bottom of the groove 15. The window is then held in a partly-open position the angle of which may be varied by adjusting the pin 7 relative to its plate. The bolt 18 is withdrawn by a handle 21 and the window pivots about the pin 7 until it has passed through 180 degrees; one side 9 of the pin 6 being flattened to enable the pin 6 to pass over the slightly elongated outer wall 16 of the groove 15. The pin 7 can then be lifted out of the groove 15. The left hand end of the bolt has a cam surface 26 which co-operates with the pin 6 as the window is closed to the partly open positionto move the bolt to the right. The right hand end of the bolt has cam surfaces 27, 29 which co-operate with the pin 7 to move the bolt to the left and retain the pin 6 as the pin 7 moves upwards or downwards in the groove 15. In a modification the bolt is spring biased to the left, the cam surfaces 27, 28 being omitted.
