Abstract
784,158. Ducting for air or other gases: ducting joints. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1956 [Jan. 21, 1955], No. 1851/55. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). The invention relates to ducting for conveying air or other gases comprising an assembly of component parts capable of being nested together for transport. As shown the ducting is formed from semi-cylindrical sheet metal pressings 10, 11. The longitudinal joints between the pressings may be of the form shown in Fig. 3. The studs 18 may be replaced by short bars or other projections which are slotted to receive captive wedges for closing the members together. The seal comprises an endless rubber band 16 of circular cross-section. To join two lengths of the ducting together they are placed in axial alignment with their ends in engagement and with a rubber or plastic ring 25 of dumb-bell cross-section stretched elastically around the adjacent portions of the ends (see particularly, Fig. 8). The joint is completed by a divided clamping ring 26. The ring is in two or three part circular sections. For connecting the ducting to a fan casing a flanged ring can be attached to the end of a length of ducting by the means described for connecting two lengths of ducting. Each length of ducting may be formed from three or more part cylindrical pressings. The ducting need not be of cylindrical cross-section but may be of polygonal or oval cross section. The pressings can be made from galvanized sheet steel.
