Abstract

783,965. Ultrasonic couplings. GLASS DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and SPROULE, D. O. May 18, 1955 [May 18, 1954], No. 14594/54. Class 40 (4). A coupling comprises a wedge 1 formed with a cusp 5, Fig. 1, providing an elongated path for any waves reflected at the contact surface 3 between the coupling and the workpiece. The walls of the cusps are coated with absorbent material. The ultrasonic generator 4 may also be a receiver. The angle of incidence of the waves at a contact surface 10 may be varied by using two couplings 8, 9, Fig. 2, in sliding contact over a cylindrical or spherical surface 11. The transmitter 14 is mounted on coupling 9 and both couplings have cusps. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 723,112.
