Abstract
633,144. Supersonic inspection devices. SPERRY PRODUCTS, Inc. May 2,1947, No. 11848. Convention date, May 21, 1946. Addition to 625,267. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIX] In supersonic testing-apparatus. of the kind described in the parent Specification, the time of travel of the wave-trains between a crystal transmitter 20 and the object 10 to be inspected is increased by interposing an intermediate waveconducting member 16<SP>1</SP> therebetween, each side wall of the member 16<SP>1</SP> having a contour, the shape of which may be corrugated, stepped, or coned to form a number of reflecting surfaces adapted to reflect waves at a number of angles. In use, subsidiary reflections within the member 161 will not have, as hitherto, a well-defined path which returns to the receiving element, such as the crystal 20, and will not therefore obscure reflections received from a defect 11 which may be quite near to the upper surface 12 of the object.
