Abstract
738,376. Ultra - sonic inspection devices. GLASS DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and SPROULE, D. O. March 20, 1953 [Dec. 21, 1951], No. 30031/51. Class 118 (2). [Also in Group XXXIX] For testing purposes, ultra-sonic shear waves or both shear waves and longitudinal waves are projected into a body 3 by means of a Y-cut quartz crystal 1 mounted on a coupling 2. The crystal generates shear waves and the angle # between the face G, F and the working face G, H in contact with the body 3 is such that shear waves are transmitted by the interface A, B. A liquid couplant such as oil, petroleum jelly or soapy water is used at the interface.
