Class 118 (ii) [Also in Group XXXIX] In order that ultrasonic vibrations from a piezo - electric vibrator may be transmitted into an object at various angles to the receiving surface so that defects inaccessible to vibrations normal to the surface can be discovered, the crystal 10 is mounted on the outer surface 22 of one of two contacting and relatively rotatable wedges 20, 30, the outer surface 32 of the other wedge being adapted to contact the receiving object 12. The wedge 30 is fixed in a casing 40 and the wedge 20 may be rotated by a projection 47 which co-operates with a scale on the casing which indicates the angle of transmission of the vibrations.
