Abstract

699,764. Supersonic inspection devices. SPERRY PRODUCTS, Inc. April 10, 1951 [April 13, 1950], No. 8278/51. Class 118 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIX] To enable a piezo-electric transducer to scan a solid with ultrasonic vibrations, a coupling 11 of methyl methacrylate is provided with a plane surface 12 and a concave cylindrical surface 15. The piezo-electric crystal 25 is carried by a shoe 20 which has a convex cylindrical surface fitting the surface 15 with sufficient clearance for a film of oil. The shoe, the crystal and a damping block 24 are mounted in a bracket 22 fixed to a shaft 17. The bracket can be rotated to adjust the angle of incidence of the vibrations to the plane surface 12, the angle being indicated by an index 34 on the bracket and a scale on the casing.
