Abstract

In an ultrasonic test head which allows the beaming angle alpha , the squint angle beta and the divergence of an acoustic beam to be varied, a piezo-electric transducer having a plurality of electrode surfaces selectable to vary the beam divergence is mounted in a carrier which can be rotated about an axis parallel to the coupling surface using a servo-control loop to set the beaming angle alpha , the holder for the carrier being rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the coupling surface by means of a servo-control loop to vary the squint angle beta . <IMAGE>
