Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent damage of a recording medium, by providing a cover member directly or adjacently on the surface of a thin film waveguide, and chamfering the edge opposed to the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:In a thin film waveguide type head which is provided with a semiocnductor laser 3, a tooth electrode 7 for energizing an ultrasonic surface acoustic wave 8 and thin film lenses 5, 9, on a waveguide 2 on a base plate 1, it is covered with a cover member 19 through a spacer 20 so that dust, etc. do not stick onto its surface. On the other hand, the edge of the base plate 1 and the cover member 19, which are opposed to a recording medium 18 is chamfered or made round lest the sharp edge of the head should damage the recording medium 18.
