Abstract

783,912. Tool-holders. NEILL & CO. (SHEFFIELD), Ltd., J. March 27, 1956 [May 17, 1955], No. 14154/55. Class 83 (3). A tool-holder for a parting-off tool 6 comprises an upward extension 2 with a bevelled projection 8 co-operating with the edge 11 of a clamping member 12 which has an opposite inclined edge 13 engaging the tool, and a clamping screw 14 passing through a clearance hole 16 in the extension .2 into a tapped hole in the member 12 to clamp the tool in a recess 1 with an undercut edge 4. The clearance hole 16 enables the member 12 to clamp a range of tool widths, which range may be extended by a further pair of bevelled surfaces 22, 23 on the member 12, which are farther apart than the surfaces 11, 13 and are brought into the operative position by rotation of the member 12 on the screw 14. The base 1A of the recess 1 is inclined to the vertical and its edge 4 may be inclined to the horizontal. The tool-holder may be made right- or left-handed, with a spring 20 acting on the member 12.
