Abstract
637,315. Work-holders; slides; adjustmeni for wear. SCHLITTERS, M. J. June 17,1947, No. 15951. Convention date, June 24, 1944. [Class 83 (iii)] A slider assembly for a metal-cutting machine tool, particularly a screw machine, comprises a slide 1 mounted for movement between a pair of guide rails 6, 6a, a tapered gib 8 adapted to be increasingly inserted between the slide and the rail 6a to compensate for wear, and means independent of the gib 8 for adjusting the rail 6a towards the rail 6 to an extent exceeding the wear adjustment of the gib and for clamping the rail 6a in an adjusted position. The slide 1 is recessed in its sides for the reception of the guide rails 6, 6a, each of such recesses having a horizontal top face 3 and plane faces 4 and 5 of a V-form. Each rail engages the adjacent slideface 3, partially engages the face 4, and has a face 7 which is spaced from the slide face 5 and converges gradually towards the face 5 from one end to the other of the rail. A gib 8, which is formed at its thickest end with a projecting lug 9, fits between the adjacent faces 5, 7 of the slide and the rails. Each lug 9 accommodates a stud 10 which is set adjustably in the end of the adjacent rail and carries a collar 11 and lock-nut 12 to hold the gib in adjusted position with respect to the end of the rail. Seatings 13, 13a integral with the rails bear on the walls 14, 14a of a channel-shaped support 15 and are clamped thereto by studs 16. The openings for the studs 16 in the rail 6a are elongated to provide transverse adjustment with the assistance of studs 18 in the wall 14a.
