Abstract

868,683. Tools and tool-holders. KNOTT, A. W. April 14, 1959 [April 22, 1958], No. 12706/58. Class 83 (3). A turning-tool comprises a holder 1 stepped as 1A, and a block 2 secured to the holder by a screw 2A, the block having a lip 2B which engages a slot 2C in the holder. A blade 4 of constant thickness and having an enlarged section 4A is clamped by a dovetail slot 3 in the holder and block. In a modification a half dovetail slot is provided in either the block or the holder co-operating with an opposite rectangular slot, or the enlargement of the blade 4 and the slot in the holder may be any shape other than dovetailed. The slots 3 and 2C and the lip 2B are at 6 degrees to the vertical, to provide a front clearance angle for the blade. The blade may be secured directly to a tool-post having the features of the holder described.
