Abstract
783,233. Relief valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 24, 1955 [Nov. 29, 1954], No. 33736/55. Class 135. A combined pressure and vacuum relief valve comprises two spring-loaded valve members 34, 44 opening in opposite directions to relief vacuum and pressure respectively, and bellows 15 for actuating the valve members which is responsive to the pressure difference between the system to be relieved and atmospheric or other outside reference pressure. The valve body 10 has an inlet port 11 for connection to the system and an aligned drainage port 12 closed by a plug 13 or a test cock, and is formed with a bore 14 closed at one end by a metallic bellows 15 and fitted at the other with a threaded sleeve 25 providing a seat 31 for the outer or vacuum relief valve disc 34. The valve disc 34 is loaded by a spring 37 and is formed with a central aperture 35 round which is formed a seat for the inner or pressure relief valve disc 44. The latter is connected to the head 17 of the bellows by a rod 46 formed with ribs 47 and guided by a correspondingly shaped aperture in the inner end 27 of the sleeve 25. The sleeve end 27 also has a number of fluid apertures 29. The body 10 and the sleeve 25 may be formed integrally. The bellows 15 is loaded by a spring 21 enclosed within and adjustable by a threaded cover 20 having a vent aperture 43. The spring 37 is similarly enclosed by an adjustable cover 40 having a fluid aperture fitted with a filter 42.
