Abstract
782,497. Arc rupturing in switches. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 24, 1955, No. 2101/55. Class 38 (5). In a circuit-breaker having an arc shoot with spaced insulating barrier plates 46 and arc constricting means between the plates are mechanically interconnected by co-operating studs 50 and flanges 51. A glass fabric bushing 52 may be interposed between each co-operating stud and flange which may be bonded together by cement as indicated at 53. The plates may be arranged as fins extending from the side walls 44, 45 of the arc shoot, as shown, so that the arc is folded in a horizontal plane around the free edges of the plates as it rises in the arc shoot. The arc is also folded in vertical planes around the flanges 51. The circuit-breaker may have main, tertiary and arcing contacts and be provided with a magnetic blow-out (not shown). The plate may be provided with the arc constricting means of the divided Specification 782,498.
