Abstract

560,257. Arc-rupturing in switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and BAYLES, J. W. Sept. 3, 1942, No. 12450. [Class 38 (v)] An arc chute comprises a plurality of U-shaped metal members D which are preferably of high resistance and magnetic material, secured to insulating plates E in such a manner that the arc current must pass down one leg and up the other, thereby creating a loopeffect to drive the arcvapours upwards through a louvred top plate A<2>. Insulating control mem= bers F, which may evolve arc - extinguishing gas, may be arranged to provide narrowing passages. The top plate A<2> may be of magnetic material and form with magnetic side plates, an inverted U-shaped core to act upon the arc. The movable contact B works in a slot in the bottom closure A<3> and the members D are made narrow so as to centralize the arc. The plates E may comprise double plates to which the respective sides of each U are riveted, Fig. 3 (not shown).
