Abstract

Class 72 A method of disposing of the fumes arising from the actipn of oxygen on molten iron or steel comprises confining the fumes above the surface of the metal and deliver- ing them to the lower part of a blast furnace. As shown, iron, confined in a ladle 1 having an air tight cover 3,. is treated with oxygen through a lance 5 and the fumes are drawn off by a fan 7 and delivered to a bustle pipe 9 of a blast furnace 10 and injected into the furnace through the ordinary tuyeres. Separate tuyeres may be used fitted at the same level as the normal tuyeres.
