781,072. Ammonium nitrate explosives. DYNAMIT-AKT.-GES. VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. April 9, 1954 [April 13, 1953], No. 10573/54. Class 9(2) In a non-caking explosive, containing as its main explosive components pulverized ammonium nitrate and at least one aromatic nitro-compound, tetryl, in a proportion of up to 1 per cent by weight of the explosive, is incorporated in the nitro-compound or compounds. The aromatic nitrocompound is preferably di- or tri-nitrotoluene, and the tetryl may be added before, or during, the working up of the nitro-compound into the explosive. In the presence of the tetryl, the ammonium nitrate crystals are unitel by the nitro-compound to form rounded conglomerates. In the example, tetryl is dissolved in liquid di- and tri-nitrotoluenes, and mixed with ammonium nitrate, wood meal, argillaceous earth, and a dyestuff.
