Abstract

723,582. Surface moderated explosives. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 10, 1953 [July 9, 1952], No. 17363/52. Class 9(2). Double base smokeless powders comprising nitrocellulose colloided by a liquid explosive nitric ester, are surface moderated by an N- alkoxy (particularly methoxy) methyl derivative of a linear polyhexamethylene adipamide in which 25 to 45 per cent of the hydrogen in the imino group of the polyamide is replaced by the N-alkoxy methyl substituent. The polyamide derivative may be applied as an aqueous alcoholic solution. Powder compositions specified are nitrocellulose, nitroglycerine, s-diethyl diphenyl urea with either mineral jelly or nitroguanidine. Specifications 573;482, [Group IV], and 723,581 are referred to.
