Abstract

1292654 Explosive compositions TALLEY INDUSTRIES Inc 4 Oct 1969 [4 Oct 1968] 26237/72 Divided out of 1292653 Heading C1D A liquid explosive for use in well fracturing comprises a nitroparaffin having dissolved therein a high explosive nitramine compound, for example RDX and/or HMX. The nitroparaffin may be nitromethane, nitroethane, nitropropane, or mixtures thereof. Also added may be TNT, PETN, finely divided aluminium, and a gelling agent, e.g. nitrocellulose, crosslinked guar gum, ethyl cellulose, cellulose acetate. The composition may also contain finely-ground ammonium nitrate. The explosive is diameter insensitive and will propagate explosion through narrow fissures adjacent the well bore. The explosive may be introduced into a well and detonated as described in Specification 1,292,653.
